Accountant - Central and Research Accounting


The Finance Division is currently undertaking an ambitious multi-year transformation programme, introducing new systems and ways of working through to 2027 and beyond. To aid implementation we are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Accountant to join the Central and Research Accounting section in the Finance Division to provide cover to enable subject matter experts to be assigned to transformation projects.

The Central and Research Accounting section is the 'engine room' for all Finance Division numbers without which no statutory reporting and audit verification would be possible and management financial information for decision making, budgeting & forecasting would not be available.

The Role

You will prepare monthly management information and support the preparation of the University's annual statutory financial statements and returns. Focusing on the reporting of Plant, Property and Equipment, Inventory, specific General Ledger balances, Research Income, fee collection and Reporting. You will be required to develop and maintain strong and effective working relationships, ensuring that processes, reports, policies, system developments and future planning are appropriately managed.

Your Skills

The successful candidate will:

  • Be a qualified accountant or by experience with strong technical accounting skills.
  • Have a flair for systems and procedures.
  • Be able to manage and prioritise workloads to meet tight deadlines.
  • Be able to manage people and relationships.

Location

The University is supportive of hybrid working, where some work is undertaken on University premises and some in a remote working environment. The aim of our approach is to enable as many staff as possible to work in a hybrid way if they wish and where their role allows. This arrangement is subject to change and will not form a part of the contractual terms of the role.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 3 years in the first instance.
