ACED Immunology Programme Manager (Fixed Term)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Programme Manager at the Early Cancer Institute (https://www.earlycancer.cam.ac.uk/) at the University of Cambridge, a world-leading centre for research and the UK's only institute dedicated to Early Cancer.

The Alliance for Cancer Early Detection (ACED) is a science-led, collaborative investment of £55 million between Cancer Research UK, the Canary Center at Stanford University, the University of Cambridge, the Knight Cancer Institute at OHSU, University College London and the University of Manchester. ACED has recently funded an ambitious major research programme entitled 'Exploiting the Immune System for Early Cancer Detection' led by Dr Jamie Blundell at the Early Cancer Institute and Professor Robert Bristow at the University of Manchester. The Programme consists of a multidisciplinary team of experts in immunology, clinical cancer genomics and computational biology from across the five ACED Centres.

The overall remit of the ACED Immunology Programme manager is to ensure that the scientific objectives and goals of the programmes are well defined; are clearly translated to Programme members; are on track for progress; and that significant issues with regard to meeting these objectives are brought to the attention of the Programme Leads. This will involve liaising with researchers and other stakeholders about various aspects of the programme. The programme manager will coordinate the programme's resources, managing conflicting priorities. Key duties include managing sample/data transfer agreements and protocols to ensure correct sample/data management, implementing project management tools to ensure programme goals are met, and organising communication across the programme researchers (e.g. organising monthly meetings where updates can be shared and discussed). The role holder will also offer key administration to the programme leads, e.g., preparing regular scientific, administrative, and financial reports on the Programme.

The Programme manager will work with the Programme leads to develop strategies that facilitate meeting the goals of the programmes in novel ways and to develop solutions to anticipated problems, with the strategic and budget ramifications being clearly identified.

This is an excellent opportunity to work with internationally leading researchers in a key supporting role.

The successful candidate will have a degree or equivalent in a relevant subject, and a PhD in cancer biology/immunology or equivalent experience qualification would be advantageous. Applicants will have strong organisational and project management skills, be proactive and possess good time management and prioritisation skills. Suitable IT experience and excellent verbal and written communication skills are required. Previous experience of management of clinical sample collections, handling and storage would be an advantage.

Alongside a competitive salary, University staff are eligible for a comprehensive package of benefits and services including discounts on shopping, financial services and public transport. We also offer defined benefits pension schemes and tax-efficient bicycle, car lease and charity-giving schemes.

For informal enquiries please contact Dr Jamie Blundell by email (jrb75@cam.ac.uk).
