Museum Assistant & Volunteer Coordinator


Do you enjoy learning about history, science, art and ethnography? Are you interested in finding out more about current research in the polar regions and sharing what you learn with museum visitors? Would you like to work with museum objects? Do you enjoy working with people?

The Museum Assistant & Volunteer Coordinator role at the Polar Museum (part of the Scott Polar Research Institute) is a varied museum role. The post holder will actively recruit and support volunteers, and work to ensure that visitors have an engaging experience when they visit the Polar Museum. They will also carry out important work to safeguard the world-class collections, support the museum's learning and public engagement programmes with a range of audiences and gain experience in the administration of a wide range of museum activities, from helping to install exhibitions to answering public enquiries.

The role holder must enjoy working with people from many different backgrounds, and have strong organisational skills. Knowledge about the polar regions is not necessary, but the role holder must be enthusiastic about learning about the cryosphere its history, geography science, and current research in the Arctic, Antarctic and other frozen regions of the world.

Limited funding: The funds for this post are available for 4 years in the first instance.

Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check, a health assessment and a security check.
