Research Assistant (Jackson Group) (Fixed Term)


The Steve Jackson laboratory (https://www.stevejacksonlab.org/) at the internationally renowned CRUK Cambridge Institute, https://www.cruk.cam.ac.uk/ (University of Cambridge), is seeking to recruit a bright and enthusiastic Research Assistant.

The postholder will work alongside experienced postdoctoral research associates to assist with several on-going projects in the lab, exploring cellular mechanisms of DNA damage responses and how sensitivity and resistance arise in different cancer cells and genetic backgrounds in response to ionising radiation and clinically relevant drugs.

The postholder will assist with high-throughput CRISPR-Cas9 screens to explore sensitivity/resistance mechanisms in defined genetic backgrounds, followed by validation and ensuing mechanistic studies. Experience in CRISPR genome editing and/or CRISPR genetic screens is essential, as well as a strong background in cell and molecular biology techniques, tissue culture, and stable cell line generation.

The research assistant will be required to take on other responsibilities, including preparation of reagents, maintenance of lab stocks and assisting in the day-to-day running of the laboratory.

The successful candidate should show initiative and independent thinking, possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently and as a part of a vibrant and diverse team.

Preferred skills and experience: ¿ Degree or equivalent in life sciences. ¿ Previous experience of working in a molecular cell biology research laboratory required. ¿ Mammalian tissue culture (including transfection, siRNA work and stable cell line generation). ¿ Experience in molecular biology techniques: cloning, PCR, mutagenesis, western blotting, immunofluorescence, DNA and RNA isolation and protein analysis. ¿ Experience in lentivirus production and transduction.
¿ Experience in CRISPR genome editing and/or CRISPR genetic screens. ¿ High attention to detail and good record keeping. ¿ Good communication and organisational skills. ¿ Reliability and enthusiasm.
