Makerspace CNC Technician
Applications are invited for the position of Makerspace CNC Technician who will work as part of a small team in the Department of Chemical Engineering & Biotechnology's Makerspace Facility.
This facility has been created to meet the highly diversified research and training needs of a world-leading department. It delivers a full range of technical services, including design and manufacture, to ca 30 academic staff, 75 post-doctoral researchers, and over 200 research students.
The successful candidate will become a key member of the Makerspace team, assisting with the design and production of a wide range of components and products for research-related projects.
The role holder will be friendly and approachable as they will represent the team whilst liaising with other technicians, students and research staff to deliver a top-quality service, utilising a wide range of materials and manufacturing methods.
The successful candidate must have an in depth knowledge of operating both CNC and manually controlled mills and lathes, be confident with both the job set up from CAD data or drawings and be the go to expert of machine operation. A working knowledge of parametric CAD is desirable (Fusion, Solidworks or Creo) as is experience working with laser/ plasma or water jet cutters, 3d printers and general workshop machinery.
They will have a duty of care towards health and safety in the Makerspace, ensuring to communicate safe practice to all users of the Makerspace at all times.

We are open to applicants with a wide variety of education/ qualifications from a Bachelors degree in a relevant field (Design/ Engineering), HNC/ HND, level 4/5 vocational qualifications, a time served apprenticeship or an equivalent level of practical experience.
